Mothman & Little Free Lit Mag

I have a couple new publications to share! First, Mothman Was Here: Tales of the Uncanny is a fantastic cryptid-themed anthology edited by William Woolfitt and published by Tenpenny Books. I would love this anthology even if my poem weren’t included, but I’m extra delighted that a reprint of my poem “Baba Yaga’s Answer” is in such excellent company.

Last week, my poem “When My Spouse Was Hot” was published in the first issue of Little Free Lit Mag, and I’m so happy to be part of this new journal’s launch! The idea is that you can read (and listen to) the issues online and also print out copies to leave in little free libraries near you. So clever! I’m especially honored that they wanted to share this poem, which blends some playfulness with some flashbacks to cancer/chemo.

UPDATE (6/28/25): Apparently Little Free Library is the trademarked name of an organization that is litigiously defensive (which is fascinating since I thought that little free libraries were just a cool idea that had spread! I should’ve known someone was capitalizing on it.) So this magazine has rebranded as Painted Pebble. You can read my poem “When My Spouse Was Hot” at their new website! 

Interview in The Brooklyn Rail

I’m having trouble finding the words to share this interview that Tony Leuzzi did with me for The Brooklyn Rail. Whatever I say about it won’t quite capture how meaningful it is to me that he took such time and care with my work. His interview questions were thoughtful and generous, and his intro—with language like “What a relief and joy then it has been to encounter Katie Manning’s Hereverent,” and “Time and again, the poems in Hereverent left me astonished”—is incredibly affirming. He even had his students read Hereverent and write poems in the style of my project! What a gift.

My Op-Ed in Tangle

I subscribe to Tangle, this great news source that deep dives into a major story each day and aggregates a spectrum of perspectives on it. They just started a new Sunday Edition and called for reader op-ed pitches, and they chose mine to print first!

They’ve reprinted my “Con Pane” poem (first published in Limp Wrist) along with a short essay about the importance of Con Pane Rustic Breads & Cafe in my life (and I could’ve said so much more…). ❤️

SDU-T Festival of Books!

I had so much fun being a featured poet at the San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books on August 19 alongside wonderful poets, including some brilliant students (Ell Huang and Jaden Goldfain) and friends (Jane Muschenetz & Jason Magabo Perez), and I completely fell in love with Marilyn Chin and her poetry too. Thank you to everyone who showed up for this special event, especially right before a storm. ❤️

Hereverent Launches!

Hereverent has been thoroughly and lovingly launched!

My poetry & jazz book launch was fantastic on April 20 at PLNU. We had poetry, music, drinks, and dessert in this little parlor that makes me feel like a wealthy great aunt has invited me to tea. 😁 I’m so grateful to Brenda Martin for her gorgeous music and her fun improv collaborations! (And thanks to Emma McCoy for the photo!)

Then my virtual book launch for Hereverent on April 21 was also lovely. What a gift to hear poets I adore read my poems alongside theirs. I’m so grateful to Agape Editions for publishing and celebrating my book! ❤️ (And thanks to Nicelle Davis for this shot!)

Finally in this countdown to launch, 15 of my favorite local poets read with me in my church’s sanctuary this past Saturday night, and I brought my favorite brownies (a recipe from my beloved dissertation advisor, Marthe Reed), and many more dear friends and delightful people came to celebrate my new book too. (And thanks to Margarita Pintado for this picture!)

My heart is full. Thank you to all who read with me, attended, and made these events possible!
